Floating, Sinking and Luminous Lures: Read the Product Name Before Comparing Specs

“Floating,” “sinking” and “luminous” identify different attributes in lure names. Floating and sinking are buoyancy terms as stated by their exact listings; luminous describes a light-related or glow label. None of the words alone supplies species, water, depth, retrieve or catch-performance guidance.

Decode one label at a time

Name termLiteral attribute namedStill unresolved
Floatingfloating/buoyancy labelexact action, depth, retrieve
Sinkingsinking/buoyancy labelsink rate, target depth, use
Luminousluminous/glow labelactivation, duration, conditions

Use the table only when the exact product listing uses the term. Do not transfer a specification from one lure to another that shares a category word.

Build a three-row comparison card

For each current product, copy its full title, selected option, dimensions, weight, material or other specifications only when that exact page states them. Add a “not stated” cell instead of filling gaps from another product or general fishing knowledge.

Example: the title “Floating Pencil Fishing Lure” establishes that the page calls it floating and pencil-shaped. It does not tell you which fish to target or how to retrieve it.

Separate shopping literacy from fishing advice

Choose which attribute you intend to research, then seek exact manufacturer instructions and appropriate local fishing guidance. Hook handling, regulations and technique require sources beyond a product-name decoder.

Add a fourth column called “source line” and copy the exact title or specification sentence that supports each entry. If the source line is blank, the comparison cell should remain “not stated.” This makes unsupported borrowing between lure pages visible before a purchase decision.

When a title combines several terms, decode each independently instead of treating the whole name as one performance promise.

Save dated screenshots because listings can change. The Floating Pencil Fishing Lure is the current floating-term reference. Compare it with the Sinking Pencil Fishing Lures and Luminous Squid Jig Fishing only through their own current pages, never by borrowing details between them.
